Wandering Black Bear Causes Alaska Zoo Evacuation

2:15 update: 

The black bear which cause the Alaska Zoo’s evacuation this morning left the property without incident.

 

The zoo has reopened to visitors, preferably human ones, and will be open during normal business hours.

 

That bear was discovered by a nightwatchman around 6:30 am this morning.

 

He spent the morning lounging in a tree near the tiger exhibit.

The owners of the Alaska Zoo ordered an evacuation of the facility after a wild black bear was found on the property this morning.

 

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game said the medium sized black bear had climbed a tree inside the zoo’s fences and was resting there.

 

No injuries were reported, the evacuation was given as a precaution.

 

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game was responding to the incident around 11:30 am.
