Warriors Claim Volleyball Mix-Six State Championship

The Nikolaevsk Warrior Mix-Six volleyball team, a combined team of female and male players, defeated Tanalian twice on Saturday for the 2021 ASAA Mix-Six State Volleyball Championship.

 

The Warrirors managed Friday’s early rounds with victories over Alakanuk and Buckland.  Nikolaevsk opened Saturday’s round with a loss to Tanalian 3-2 and defeated Gustavus in the double-back game 2-0 to force a showdown with Tanalian.  Nikolaevsk downed Tanalian 3-2 to advance, and win, the championship game to 30, 30-28 for the state championship.

 

Mix Six State Championship Tournament Structure: The Mix Six Championship will consist of 11 teams using a double elimination bracket. Opening round games will be best of 3 (third game will be to 25 points winning by 2) while all winners matches will be best of 5.

 

ASAA Handbook Rules For Mix-Six Volleyball

Mix Six volleyball is intended to be played with three males and three females on the court at all times. The serving order and positions on the court at service shall be female and male alternating or vice-versa.
1. Up to two female players are allowed to replace male players on the court.
2. A male may never fill a female position. In service order all males must be in position 1, 3
and 5 or 2, 4 and 6.
3. No more than three males may be on the court at any time.
4. There must be at least one male on the court to begin a match.
b. The height of the net for mix six play shall be 2.43 meters (7’ 11-5/8”).
c. When the ball is played more than once by a team, at least one of the contacts shall be made by a female player. Contact of the ball during blocking shall not constitute a play on the ball 2020-21 ASAA Handbook Page 172 under this rule. There is no requirement for a male player to contact the ball, regardless of the number of plays by a team.
