Christopher Kurka has thrown his hat into the Alaska gubernatorial race. He is a Republican representing District 7 as a member of the Alaska House of Representatives in Wasilla. He was elected to the House in 2020.

In a video published online, Kurka said:

“The conservative grassroots of Alaska will not be so easily silenced. The political elite and this current governor are about to learn they lost their conservative base the second they allowed liberty to take a back seat to tyranny. … I am not willing, nor content to stand by and helplessly watch as a state I love is destroyed by out-of-control courts, feckless politicians, and an administration that appears intent on bending to the pressure of the left. That is why today, I am officially announcing my candidacy for Alaska’s governor.”

What did, however, throw everyone off was the fact that, over the weekend, Joe Miller made a social media post saying that he will make an announcement regarding Alaska’s governor race. Everyone assumed he would throw his hat into the gubernatorial race as well, instead, endorsing Kurka for governor.

In a YouTube video, Miller said:

“This is a situation that we all need to get behind with support and prayer, activism, whatever you can give financially, and we need to have that candidate that’s going to do exactly what I talked about, stand with integrity, stand with principal, being flexible in the face of pressure. I believe that candidate is Rep. Christopher Kurka.”

Kurka joins an ever-growing list of politicians who have announced they will run for Alaska governor including Alaska’s current governor, Mike Dunleavy and former Democratic Rep. Les Gara. Currently only Libertarian candidate William S. Toien and former Independent Gov. Bill Walker have filled out paperwork to appear in the primary.
