Waterway Suitability Assessment for LNG Expected this Year

The Alaska LNG Project is ramping up field work in Nikiski this summer and also plans to release additional waterway studies.

Socioeconomic team lead Michael Nelson detailed what the Water Suitability Assessment would include.

Nelson: “It’s mostly focused on safety, marine travel/transit in a marine operation so this is something the Coast Guard does routinely and so they’re coordinating this effort on behalf of us to help us study where there may be safety issues or concerns that we can address early in the process.”

He said at this time the Project is estimating the movement about 20 LNG carriers per month in the Cook Inlet.

A community meeting is being held from 6-8pm at the Nikiski Recreation Center this Thursday, April 23.
