The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from Monday morning on February 26th, through Tuesday morning on February 27th for East Turnagain Arm-Western Prince William Sound.
This also includes the cities of Girdwood, Portage, Whittier, Seward,
and Moose Pass.
Heavy and blowing snow is possible, with total snow
accumulations of 6 to 16 inches possible. Winds could gust as
high as 50 mph. Visibility may be reduced to as low as one
quarter mile.
A strong frontal system will move to the eastern Kenai Peninsula on Monday. Easterly winds will quickly increase with this system as snow overspreads the region. The combination of snow and winds gusting to 50 mph through Portage Valley and 35 mph in Turnagain Pass may significantly reduce visibility.
The strongest winds and heaviest snow are likely to occur from noon Monday through Monday evening. The best chance for prolonged blowing snow will be through Turnagain Pass as temperatures remain in the mid 20s. There is some uncertainty as to the duration of significant blowing snow for Whittier and Portage as temperatures in these locations may climb into the lower 30s, limiting blowing snow potential. A period of blowing snow is also possible Monday night into Tuesday morning for Seward as the front moves south and winds shift around to the north.
Plan on difficult travel conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
