As of 1 pm this evening a high wind warning is in effect for the Turnagain Arm and higher elevations until 6 am Saturday, September 13.
The Kenai Peninsula is forecast to see heavy rainfall over the weekend however Dan Nelson with the Borough Office of Emergency Management said significant flooding is not expected.
Nelson: “Most of the moisture associated with that forecasted tropical storm that was coming up to effect both the western and eastern Kenai peninsula has luckily been directed away from the peninsula so what we can expect over the weekend is rain and sporadic showers through most of the peninsula and on the east side near the Seward area were expecting heavy rains for an 18 hour period starting Friday.”
This could cause rivers and streams to swell so Nelson also gave advice to anyone heading out onto the water.
Nelson: “Maintain situational awareness of your surroundings and whats going on its up to each individual be a judge if something is safe. More waters and highly flood water typically mean a higher velocity so that waters moving quickly it may have potential to carry some small areas of debris depending where you are”
