Wednesday A.M. Deadline To Add Children To Stimulus Checks

The Internal Revenue Service has announced that Wednesday, April 22, at 8:00 a.m. AKDT is the deadline for individuals to register their children using the non-filer tool on the IRS website.  People who filed tax returns in 2018 or 2019 do not need to use that tool. Those who have not filed taxes but wish to register their children for a stimulus payment must do so.

Examples of non-filers are those who receive Social Security, disability, or veteran’s benefits, and did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019. The Federal CARES Act allows for a $500 stimulus payment for eligible children, and $1,200 for eligible adults.

If you don’t provide your information by the deadline, you will have to wait to receive your $500 for each qualifying child. That means your initial payment will be $1,200 and the $500 per eligible child amount will be paid once you file for the tax year 2020.
