6:00pm Update
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has requested the public’s help for any additional information they may have as to the cause of the Funny River fire.
The fire was discovered along the Woodcut Road near Mile 6.5 of Funny River Road Monday May 19 shortly after 4pm and has now burnt over 183,000 acres.
Investigators have determined the fire was human caused but was not a result of an abandoned campfire as some agencies had reported.
The USFWS requests that anyone with information about the start of the fire or people and vehicles that had been in the area during the afternoon of May 19, please contact the Alaska State Troopers at 907-262-4453.
Callers may remain anonymous if they prefer.
