The Cities of Soldotna and Kenai will hold a joint Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Wednesday, featuring guest-speaker Mike Heatwole who will be representing The Pebble Project.

Shanon Davis, Executive Director of the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, offered details to KSRM on Tuesday: “Tomorrow afternoon at lunch, we are having a luncheon – a joint Kenai / Soldotna luncheon over in Kenai at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, and that is going to be a presentation from Pebble and they’re talking about a path forward.”

The Pebble Project has been under serious scrutiny for approximately one week.  Recordings were released by the Environmental Investigation Agency which featured people hired to pose as potential investors in the Pebble Project as they recorded calls with Pebble officials in August and September of this year. They characterized Senators Lisa Murkowski, Dan Sullivan, Governor Mike Dunleavy, as well as other officials as ultimately being harmless in posing a risk to the project. The Pebble officials claimed Alaska’s representatives aimed only to voice opposition when the sentiment did not mean much of consequence.

Heatwole plans to speak to the future of the Pebble Project during the joint chamber luncheon, and has spoken on behalf of the project to multiple news outlets since the resignation of Pebble’s CEO, Tom Collier.

The luncheon will take place at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. They ask that participants RSVP on Tuesday, but interested persons can call for more information at (907) 283-1991.
