The Department of Health and Social Services announced 165 new cases of COVID-19 in Alaska over the weekend, combined across Saturday and Sunday’s reports. In a continued improvement, the Kenai Peninsula saw no new reported cases over the weekend.

The majority of the state’s new cases came from Anchorage where 86 residents tested positive.

There are currently 4,066 active cases of COVID-19 among Alaska residents. 195 of those cases are residents of the Kenai Peninsula, a reduction of one active case from this same time a week ago. Among the current active cases, 67 are in Soldotna, 59 in Kenai, 32 in Homer, and 16 in Sterling.

The Kenai Peninsula’s rate of daily tests with positive results has under 1.0% since late August. As recently as mid-August, the rate of positive tests was just under 3.0% during the weekend of August 15 and 16.

With rates of new COVID-19 cases improving, schools throughout the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District remain in the Green level, meaning a low-risk of transmission.
