West Valley Football Opens Season With New Head Coach

The West Valley Wolfpack football program, following an incident in a preseason team building exercise at the UAF swimming facility, will open and prepare for the 2019 high school football season under the direction of acting head coach Norm Davis.

 

Roy Hessner, West Valley head football coach, has turned-in his resignation to the Fairbanks North Star School District as a result of an incident which left three students hospitalized–all three have since been released from the hospital.

 

West Valley plays in Alaska’s Division II for high school football in the Railbelt Conference.  Soldotna High School is scheduled to play West Valley in week two of the regular season (August 23rd) in Fairbanks and Kenai Central is hosting West Valley in week five ( September 14th) at KCHS.

The third West Valley High School student hospitalized in the July 26 swimming accident was released from the hospital on Tuesday, July 30. We are grateful to the staff at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. Risk management for the school district is performing an investigation and is in the process of scheduling participant interviews.

West Valley High School will begin their football season as regularly scheduled today, Wednesday, July 31. School administration has assembled a coaching staff to get the season started.

Norm Davis will serve as acting head coach. Mr. Davis is a teacher at University Park Elementary and has helped coach football and wrestling at West Valley for many years.
