A wildfire that broke out Friday afternoon near Milepost 102 of the Sterling Highway—just outside TJ Seggy’s and close to Bruce’s Avenue—prompted a swift and coordinated response from multiple agencies. As of Friday evening, the fire is now reported to be under control.
Central Emergency Services (CES) remains on scene alongside the Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection, ensuring full containment and monitoring for flare-ups.
The fire, estimated at 10 acres earlier in the day, had been burning actively on both flanks, prompting deployment of one air tanker and one helicopter, with additional air support initially en route.
According to CES Chief Roy Browning, about 25 firefighters worked the ground response during the height of the incident. The Alaska Interagency Coordination Center had listed the blaze as “active” and “uncontained” early Friday, and its cause remains undetermined.
The fire originated on private land, and the Kenai-Kodiak Area office of the Division of Forestry served as the lead protection agency.
No evacuations were announced, but residents were advised to steer clear of the area to ensure the safety of responding crews. Officials continue to urge the public to remain fire-aware as dry conditions persist across the Kenai Peninsula.
