The Alaska State Trooper post in Soldotna received a report around 12:00 p.m. noon on Saturday, August 13 of a report of a theft of a 1995 Ford F250 from the Bing’s Landing boat launch area.
By about 12:50 p.m., the vehicle was spotted heading northbound on the Seward Highway near mile 39, which is by the Devil’s Creek Trail Head, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however the driver failed to yield and accelerated northbound at a high rate of speed. The driver pulled off the highway near mile 58 of the Seward Highway, located near the Hope Cutoff, and took off on foot.
A perimeter was established and multiple Alaska State Troopers, U.S. Forest Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife officers responded, including severaal K-9 units from both AST and USFWS. A K-9 track led to the water’s edge of the East Fork of the Six-Mile Creek.
By 4:47 p.m., the driver, who was later identified as 40-year-old Justin Sundberg of Willow was taken into custody and transported to Wildwood Pretrial without further incident.
