The Kenai Peninsula along the Cook Inlet can expect increasing winds tonight however they are not associated with the extra tropical system that was Typhoon Nuri.
National Weather Service Forecaster Kimberly Hoeppner…
Hoeppner: “The concern for the Kenai is actually going to be tonight into tomorrow, as we have a front initially moving from the south to the northern gulf in the near term forecast, so that’s not going to be associated with the other system.”
Winds between 15 – 30 mph are expected for this evening.
The National Weather Service did issue a warning for an extra tropical system that will affect the western Aleutian Islands with the main area of concern on the island of Shemya.
Hoeppner: “This high wind warning is going to be approximately the early morning hours of Friday morning with south winds between 20-30 mph initially, and then rapidly increasing between 60-75 mph with gusts to 80-90 mph and that’s going to be by late Friday morning. And then during the Friday afternoon and evening hours those winds are going to be persisting but switching out of the southwest and they are going to be continuing through approximately mid-morning Saturday and then slowly starting to diminish during the rest of the day on Saturday.”
Hoeppner said that that weather system is not expected to impact the Kenai Peninsula in any way.
