Following the winter windstorm Tuesday night, more than 1,300 residents of the Kenai Peninsula were without power. Homer Electric Association crews were able to restore power to the majority of those, however, early Wednesday morning.
According to HEA, crews worked through the night to restore all but two outages affecting 26 members. As of Wednesday morning crews were still in the field working hard to restore power to the final members.
In a Facebook post, HEA thanked their crews for their work. “A huge shoutout to our awesome Dispatchers and Line crews for their hard work in some not so nice conditions. Thank you Members for your patience.”
The outages began late Tuesday night in north Kenai and Nikiski due to the strong winds. Line crews were diverted from other duties to respond to a large outage affecting 1,339 members.
By midnight, an update from the utility company stated, “Crews continue to work as quickly and as safely as they can. They are bringing back sections at a time while continuing to patrol the line. They have restored power to 596 members. There are 743 members that remain without power. This will be the last post for the night. Thank you for your patience.”
