Winter Weather Advisory: As Much As 12″ Of Snow Possible Before Midnight

Author: Nick Sorrell |

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Western Kenai Peninsula.

According to the NWS, the advisory calls for as much as 12 inches of snow from Thursday morning to midnight in the cities of Kenai, Soldotna, Homer, and Cooper Landing.

Mixed precipitation and areas of heavy snow are forecasted.

Anyone driving in these areas should plan for slippery road conditions. Heavy snow falling onto wet roadways may create slushy or icy conditions. Snowfall rates of an inch an hour are possible in the band of heavy snow.

The NWS alert says a band of heavy precipitation is developing over the Western Kenai Peninsula this morning. Winds in the lower elevations are keeping some areas as rain, particularly the Kenai and Soldotna areas. However, as winds diminish today, snow will be more likely to accumulate.

Farther south into Kachemak Bay, a mixture of rain and snow is expected.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.
