Winter Weather Advisory For Freezing Rain On The Kenai Peninsula

The National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Advisory for the Western Kenai Peninsula, including the cities of Kenai, Soldotna, Homer, and Cooper Landing in effect from 2 am to 9am, Tuesday January 16th.

 

* WHAT…Freezing rain expected. Precipitation may start as snow along Cook Inlet, but a quick changeover to freezing rain is expected with little or no snow accumulation. The ice will result in difficult travel conditions, including during the  morning commute on Tuesday. Total ice accumulations of one to two tenths of an inch are expected.

* WHERE…Western Kenai Peninsula except for along Kachemak Bay where plain rain is expected.

* WHEN…2 AM to 9 AM Tuesday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving. For the latest road conditions call 5 1 1 or visit 511.alaska.gov.
