Winter Weather Advisory In Effect From Midnight Wednesday To 5 P.M. Thursday

The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a Winter Weather Advisory effective midnight Wednesday, February 22nd, through 5 p.m. Thursday evening, February 23rd, for the Western Kenai Peninsula.

According to the the National Weather Service, mixed precipitation is expected with snow accumulations of up to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze.

Areas included in the advisory include Kenai, Soldotna, Homer, and Cooper Landing. The most likely area for freezing rain will be along the Sterling Highway corridor. Areas around Kachemak Bay will see all rain through the event.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute.

For those traveling to Anchorage, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 3 a.m. Thursday February 23rd through 9 p.m. Thursday evening February 23rd for the cities of Anchorage, Eagle River, Indian, and Eklutna.

According to the the National Weather Service, Snow will begin after midnight tonight and then southeast winds will develop over town which will likely turn snow to rain during the daytime hours. The winds will diminish by late afternoon turning precipitation back to snow. Higher elevations will see more snow than in the Anchorage bowl and the snow and wind at higher elevations may limit visibility at times. There is a chance the southeast winds will not be sufficient to turn the snow to rain, which would increase snow amounts over the Anchorage Bowl, but the most likely scenario is for both rain and snow on Thursday.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and afternoon commutes Thursday.
