In an Interior Conference basketball tournament which has been filled with upsets and higher-seeded teams being knocked-off in early rounds, the Ninilchik Wolverine boys continue to dominate and advance.
Ninilchik plays in the Interior Conference boys championship game on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Tok High School following a victory in the Wolverines’ opening game 87-43 over host Tok.
Ninilchik will face Effie Kokrine in the title game with a berth to the ASAA 2A state tournament granted to the winner. A loss and the Wolverines return to the court on Saturday in a battle for second-place and the second Interior Conference berth to state. The Wolverines faced Effie Kokrine in the regular season and defeated the Warriors 75-19.
Ninilchik 87- Tok 43
Jaylin Scott and Cole Moore lead the Wolverines attack in an 87-43 dismantling of Tok; Scott lead all scorers with 26 points and Moore added 16 points. Ninilchik pulled away in the second quarter for a 47-20 halftime lead and added 40, second-half points for a 44-point margin of victory.
In the Interior Conference early round games, #6 seed Effie Kokrine defeated #3 Cordova and #7 Nenana upset #2 seed Su-Valley. In the double-elimination format, Su-Valley and Cordova have opportunities to advance to the tournament’s second place game on Saturday.
