Alaska State Troopers were notified by the Anchorage Police Department of a black 2016 BMW that was reported stolen. This incident happened Tuesday night just after 11:00 p.m.
An investigation revealed the BMW’s owner had the key fob in her possession and the vehicle was left idling to warm up. The BMW owner was seated in a separate vehicle parked next to it. An unknown female that later was identified as 30-year-old Nicole Collet of Anchorage ran up to the BMW, looked inside, got in and stole it with the vehicle last being seen on the Seward Highway heading southbound.
Just after midnight this morning, the Soldotna Alaska State Trooper K-9 Team was patrolling near mile 62 of the Sterling Highway in Sterling and discovered the stolen vehicle heading southbound with no taillights. The stolen vehicle was observed traveling above the posted speed limit and failure to maintain a proper lane of travel.
AST initiated a traffic stop and the BMW failed to yield to emergency lights and siren. Stop sticks were deployed, which successfully deflated two of the four tires, but the vehicle continued driving southbound on deflated tires. A P.I.T. technique was performed, and the vehicle eventually was stopped. Upon the vehicle stopping, Collet took off on foot into the woods, but eventually was apprehended.
No injuries were reported and none of the vehicles involved sustained damage. Collet was arrested and transported to Wildwood Pretrial where she was remanded without bail on charges of 1st degree vehicle theft, reckless driving, 1st degree failure to stop, and DUI.
