The Kenai City Council took action to appropriate money from the $30,000 raised to add wooden animals to the Kenai Municipal Park improvement plan.

Kenai Mayor Pat Porter said the South Forest Drive’s park theme is “enchanted forest.”

Porter: “$7,000 of the allocated money out of the $30,000 which was raised by the community, which I’m very thankful for by the way, we live in a fabulous area that is so willing to contribute, will actually be used to make the park more aesthetically pleasing and go with the theme.”

She said there will likely be about five animals created, including a moose that will greet park goes, and the work will be done locally.

Porter: “Mr. (Derrick) Stanton, who is over off of K-Beach road there on the corner, I’ve actually been speaking to him and took a couple of the designs for him to look, he thought they were great and we still want to work on them, we want to make sure it’s what we want and he’s got small children of his own and so he understands totally what needs to  be there and the safety involved.”

The plan for the park improvements was approved by council in the December 17 meeting and installation is expected to begin this spring.
