A line of 16″ pipe has been laid out beside Bridge Access Road, ready for installation under the wetlands.
ENSTAR Natural Gas’ Kevin Campbell says the new 4.4 miles of pipe will run from CINGSA, just off Bridge Access Road in Kenai, under the Kenai River and down K-Beach Road to connect with ENSTAR’s existing network on Amy Lane…
Campbell: “The technology that’s being used to cross the river is the same as what was used previously, it’s known and proven technology and essentially it won’t have any affects on any of the habitat or ecology of the river and that’s the reason that it’s utilized.”
ENSTAR had been using Hilcorp lines and John Sims said the new line will provide redundancy, to ensure gas is delivered, increase volumetric capacity by 12.5% and save on transportation costs for CINGSA users.
Sims: “The end user will see it through the electric rates and the COPA. The Cost of Purchase Agreement, so so storage and transportation rates as well, so those will potentially be lower, depending on where they’re getting their gas from.”
ENSTAR will conduct 2,100 feet of directional drilling under the River with two additional anadromous stream crossings. There’s also the potential for another 2,800 feet of direction drilling under the wetlands.
Work will continue through the summer.
