Wrestlers & Volleyball Teams Compete In Tournament Formats

High school wrestlers meet in Homer for the Homer Rumble Duals on Friday and the Homer Round Robin Tournament on Saturday.

Homer Rumble

South Anchorage High School, with three dual victories, took first place in the Homer Rumble.  The Homer Mariners finished second, followed by SoHi in third in the team scoring.

Homer Round Robin

South Anchorage again wrestled to the team championship on Saturday, claiming the Homer Round Robin team title; SoHi finished 4th, Nikiski 5th, and Kenai 9th.

Austin Schrader, 170-pounds, from SoHi recorded the only first place finish the SoHi Stars; TJ Cox, 120-pounds, earned a first place for the Nikiski Bulldogs.  Second place efforts were recorded by SoHi’s Gideon Hutchison, 106; Travis Howell, 113; Seth Hutchison, 132; and Kenai’s Keyshawn McEnerny, at 152.

Upcoming Schedule

Most teams will head to Seward for the King of the Mountain Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday, October 30 and 31 at Seward High School.

 

Dimond/Service Volleyball Tournament

Following a strong performance in Friday’s pool play rounds, the Kenai Kardinals and SoHi Stars volleyball teams advanced into the Gold Bracket for Saturday’s action in the Dimond/Service Volleyball Tournament.

Kenai finished 4th in the Gold Bracket; SoHi 5th in the Gold Bracket; and the Nikiski Bulldogs closed-out in the Bronze Bracket.

Kenai and SoHi both finished Friday’s pool play with 6-2 records.

Kenai’s Abby Beck was named to the all-tournament team along with Allie Steinbeck.  Beck was also named Kenai’s Floorburn Award winner.

SoHi’s Sylvia Tuisaula was named to the all-tournament team and McKenna Rosin was named SoHi’s Floorburn winner. Nikiski’s Brittany Perry took home the Bulldogs’ Floorburn Award.

The regular season for high school volleyball closes-out Friday, October 30th with the Stars hosting Kenai and Nikiski hosting Seward.
