Wrestling Season Opens At Houston Altercation

The Soldotna Stars and Nikiski Bulldogs competed at the Houston Altercation wrestling tournament, opening the regular season for high school wrestling; SoHi finishing fourth and Nikiski finishing 13th in the team scoring.

 

Three SoHi wrestlers completed the two-day competition undefeated and earned weight-class championships.

Jacob Strausbaugh won the 103 pounds weight-class.

Liam Babitt, DI state champion in 2021, wrestling at 215 recorded all pins for the tournament.

Trinity Donovan, Girls state champion in 2019 and 2021, wrestling at 160 pounds also pinned all opponents in her bracket.

Other top bracket finishes included:

SoHi: Tustin Keller was second at 103, Hunter Richardson was second at 189, Jessica Leclair was second at girls 112, Daisy Hannevold was second in 135 pound girls, Logan Duyck was fourth at 145 and Erin Bell was sixth in 160 pound girls.

Nikiski: Mayaac Schmit finished third at 285; Simon Grenier, fourth at 189.

 

Colony, 235 points, narrowly defeated South Anchorage, 230 points, for the team title.  The Stars totaled 144 points, while Nikiski earned 50 points.
