Wrestling Tournaments Featured Local Grapplers In Multiple Events

Wrestlers from Kenai, SoHi and Nikiski competed in invitational wrestling tournaments; the Kards and Stars at the Colony Invitational, featuring Northern Lights Conference, Anchorage and Southeast opponents; the Bulldogs at the Lime Solar/ACS Wrestling Invitational at Anchorage Christian Schools, featuring the best of 1-2-3A wrestling.

 

Colony Invitational

The Colony wrestling team won the Colony Invitational on Saturday, with Soldotna coming in fourth and Kenai Central taking eighth.

The Colony Knights amassed 237.5 points for the overall team championship at the Colony Invitational.  Soldotna finished fourth and Kenai eighth in the team scoring.

Individual weight class champions from the peninsula included: SoHi’s Gideon Hutchison’s title at 120 pounds; and Kenai’s Byron Dunham at 195 pounds.

Runner-up finishes were earned by SoHi’s  Logan Craig in the 106 pound weight class; SoHi’s Dennis Taylor at 138 pounds, SoHi’s Brenner Furlong at 185 pounds and Kenai’s Jacob Grant in the 285-pound division.

Third place finishes were recorded by SoHi’s Bechler Metcalf at 152 and SoHi’s Eli Floyd at 220.

Fourth place finishes were also recorded by Kenai’s Tucker Vann in the 138 pound weight class and SoHi’s Hudson Metcalf at 170 pounds.

2017 Lime Solar/ACS Wrestling Invitational

Bethel and Homer battled for the team title with Bethel holding off the Mariners for the team championship at the 2017 Lime Solar/ACS Wrestling Invitational Saturday at Anchorage Christian Schools , which featured 33 teams representing 1-2-3A wrestling.

The Nikiski Bulldogs top finishers included Tyler Litke, fourth at 195 pounds; Koleman McCaughey , fourth at 152 pounds and Ethan Hack, sixth at 285 pounds.
