Dawson Slaughter is running for the South Peninsula(District 9) Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly seat.
The 24-year-old said he wants to bring a fresh take on the way things are run.
Slaughter: “I’m just tired of the way things are going as it is, I think we need to have some young blood in the office. I was approached by a few of my friends that I’ve made over the years, Fred Sturman was one of them, he thinks and I believe in it, that it’s a good idea to have some young blood on the board. We need to remember that we control the government, not the government controls us.”
Slaughter said he also wants to reach out to young people.
Slaughter: “I want to get them motivated, I want to get them energized and excited about things again, instead of sitting back and just playing video games for example.”
He and his family own an Anchor Point pawn shop, which is a surefire way to keep himself accountable to his constituents, whom he sees everyday.
Slaughter said he has been following politics since he was 17-years-old. He and his wife just bought a home in Anchor Point and are working to renovate it.
Voters will decide between Slaughter and William Dunn for the District 9 seat on October 6.
