Alaska is reporting half a dozen new COVID-19 deaths, including that of a young woman in her 20s. The state Department of Health and Social Services reported six new deaths yesterday, including four residents and two nonresidents. The resident deaths include an Anchorage woman in her 20s, an Anchorage woman in her 30s, an Anchorage man in his 70s and a Dillingham man in his 60s. The nonresident deaths were of two men in their 70s who died in Anchorage. Alaska has now seen 431 resident COVID-19 deaths and 13 nonresident deaths.
The health department also reported 634 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, including 601 residents. Across the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai reported 23 cases, Soldotna 15, Seward 8, Sterling 8, Homer 6, Kenai Peninsula Borough North 5, Nikiski 5, Kenai Peninsula Borough South 2, and Anchor Point 1. Additionally, 33 new nonresident cases were reported, including 2 in Soldotna and 1 in Seward.
The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 479.1. For boroughs and census areas: 27 areas are at the high alert level.
60.7% of Alaskans 12 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 55% of Alaskans 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 46.6% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are fully vaccinated.
