U.S. Rep. Don Young has said he is disappointed about the direction the country is going however said he is still hopeful.
When asked about what Congress’ role in international affair is, Rep. Young said their only role should be financing and, if there is a war, a vote on declaration of war.
Rep. Young: “Again, if I can be kind of a troublemaker here, I think Americans are not participating in these international conflicts, they are not aware of it and it is bleeding this country dramatically, we should be part of it if it’s going to occur. I remember I went through my childhood with collecting aluminum, we had victory gardens, we had savings dance, we had savings bonds, we had blackouts, we had lookouts, we had rationing, we participated, we helped pay for the war. We’re now borrowing money for war, and I don’t think that’s good for the budget or future generations at all.”
Rep. Young will face off against Jim McDermott(L) and Forrest Dunbar(D) in the November 4 general election for Alaska’s single U.S. House of Representative seat.
