The Challenger Learning Center has many opportunities for local students to experience science and engineering studies in a fun and interactive format.
This spring break The Challenger Center is offering several different camps for they haven’t previously offered, we spoke to coordinator Summer Lazenby for more.
Lazenby: “We have several camps going on this spring break, we’ve got camps for younger kids, middle range kids, and then our high school camp which is brand new this spring, which will be survival 101. The kids are going to learn how to build a fire, put out a fire, find food in the wilderness, wilderness safety, avalanche safety, boating safety and it will have an outdoor overnight experience, that will be supervised, but its going to replicate an emergency situation as best as possible.”
We also spoke to CEO Marni Olcott who said they are still working on funding for their expansion project.
Olcott: “We’re still in the later stages in the design phase, for the purpose used Hewitt Training Facility which we’ll be building here right next to the Challenger Learning Center. And we are still currently seeking funding we have some, not all of it. But the design stage is actually moving along quite smoothly.”
Olcott said that they are hoping to break ground this spring.
