Rep. Young’s Topics for Luncheon

Representative Don Young stopped in last night and we got to ask him what kind of topics he would be addressing at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce Luncheon today.

Young: “I’ll be addressing where congress is going to be going this remaining year, challenges to the economy, state and federal, and I’ll be talking about probably a couple of the referendums on the ballot. Primarily Senate Bill 21.”

SB 21 is the bill introduced by Governor Sean Parnell that is intended to spur economic growth and increase gas and oil production while reforming tax laws for oil companies.

Young said he thinks that much of today’s  luncheon will be about energy.

Young: “Will gas be delivered here, will we be able to reconstruct the Agrium Plant. I think you’re going to see a lot more interest in that. Of course there’s a lot of exploration going in the Cook Inlet itself. Possibility of putting in a DC current to the Beluga field so that we can have a circle of power for the grid so if one place goes down we have a way to have people have electricity in all their businesses and their homes.”

He also talked about national topics local residents may have interest in.

Young: “The debt ceiling and the votes for it. Where the overreach of the Obama administration is occurring and what can we do as a congress.”
