Air Fair Begins Tomorrow

Alaska ranks #1 in the nation for the number of residents who are also pilots; 1.3 out of every 100 Alaskans is an active, registered pilot.

 

The annual Air Fair will touch down Saturday, June 14 at 8 am.

 

Kenai Airport Manager Mary Bondurant spoke with us about the fair’s kickoff this year.

 

Bondurant: “The event kicks off at the Soldotna Airport at the Marc hanger from 8-11, the EAA will be cooking breakfast for the pilots that register for the poker run and also the public is welcome but the event kicks off there from 8-11, the pilots will register with us, pay a registration fee, recieve a free t-shirt, have free breakfast, and then fly around to at least 5 of 8 airports on the peninsula, pick up a ticket in a bucket, then fly back to Kenai by 2:30 Saturday afternoon, turn their tickets in and we will give them a poker hand and then they can possibly win a prize based on the highest hands and we have about 20 poker prizes. The afternoon event also in Kenai also includes a military appreciation event at 2 o’clock, the mayors of Soldotna and Kenai will read a proclamation declaring June 14 as Military Appreciation Day.” 

 

She added that there will also be many vendors and Hobo Jim live for entertainment.
