Brown Bears Take Two Of Three In Opening Home Series

The Kenai River Brown Bears opened their first home stand of the 2019-20 North American Hockey League season taking two of three games against the Janesville Jets at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

 

Kenai River improves to 5-3-1-1 with 12 points in the early season, good for third place in the Midwest Division of the NAHL behind the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and Chippawa Steel.

 

The Brown Bears defeated Janesville 5-2 on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday before falling 6-3 on Sunday.

 

Game Summary

Kenai River 5 – Janesville 2  Friday

The Brwon Bears score single goals in the first and second periods and added three goals in the third for the 5-2 victory.  Max Helgeson scored in the first, Theo Thrun netted a goal in the second, Zach Krajnik scored twice in the third and Trey LaBarge closed-out the scoring in the third period.

Kenai River 4 – Janesville 1  Saturday

Max Helgeson again lead off the scoring and Preston Weeks lit the lamp in the first period.  Kenai River added two goals in the second; one for Brandon Lajoie and one for Porter Schachle.

Kenai River 3 – Janesville 6  Sunday

The Janesville Jets found their offense in game three of the series recording a 6-3 victory over the Brown Bears.  The Jets built a 4-0 lead before Konner Lundeen scored for the Brown Bears.  Down 6-1 in the third period, Kenai River closed the scoring with goals from Theo Thrun and Nate Thelen.

 

The Kenai River Brown Bears host Minnesota Magicians at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday, October 18th and 19th.
