Elderly Ninilchik Resident Found After Short Search and Rescue

An 81-year-old Ninilchik resident was found and treated for severe hypothermia after combined law enforcement and community search and rescue efforts last Thursday.

 

Anchor Point Alaska State Troopers were notified at 10:39 am on September 10 that 81-year-old Richard Hunt was missing from his residence.

 

Friends tried to check on him that morning because the night before he had a medical problem.

 

Ninilchik EMS searched his home, outbuildings, and the immediate area and found no sign of Hunt.

 

AST arrived on scene to organize a larger search and during that process, officers located Hunt at the bottom of a 150 foot hill behind his residence.

 

Troopers and EMS were able to rescue Hunt by foot he was transported to a local hospital for treatment of severe hypothermia.

 

The agencies believed Hunt was outside over the entire night exposed to the elements.

 

Alaska State Troopers extended thanks to the community for volunteering their time to search the area by foot, ATV, and vehicle.
