Fish Culverts To Be Installed On Skilak And Swan Lake Roads

Author: Nick Sorrell |

Fish culvert installation and road improvement projects on Skilak Lake Road and Swan Lake Road will cause traffic delays this summer. The projects begin on May 1 and run through Aug. 1. The project will see the construction of three “Aquatic Organism Passage” (AOP) culverts, including streambed channel reconstruction.

Additional construction in the areas will include the installation of smaller culverts, excavation, the installation of embankments to raise the roadway grade, and new roadway aggregate surfacing.

On Skilak Lake Road, fish culverts will be installed at Jean Creek, Lower Ohmer Lake, and an unnamed creek. The Jean Creek culvert construction is scheduled to begin on May 1 and end on Jun. 9. The Lower Ohmer Lake will run from Jun. 5 to Jul. 20, and the third culvert installation will begin on Jun. 25 and run through Aug. 1.

Culverts on Swan Lake Road will provide passage to fish in Sucker Creek, Rainbow Creek, and another unnamed tributary. The first installation, at Sucker Creek, is scheduled to run from May 1 to Jun. 15. The culvert at the unnamed tributary will begin on May 17 and end by Jul. 15, and the largest project, Rainbow Creek, begins Jun. 5 and is scheduled for completion on Aug. 1.
