Sometimes in police work, the footprints really do lead to the criminal. That’s what happened in Nikiski after a month-long investigation into the theft of over $5,000 worth of tools came to an end.

The Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna took a report on the afternoon of Feb. 4 of the theft of tools from a construction site in the Nikiski area. When Troopers arrived on the scene an investigation revealed that $5,000+ worth of tools had been stolen from the job site overnight.

Troopers were able to follow a set of footprints that went down a powerline adjacent to the property and ended near the eventual suspect’s residence, directly across the street.

Investigation revealed that 51-year-old Glen Carlson of Nikiski committed the theft.

Ultimately, a majority of the tools were returned to the owner.

Carlson was charged with Theft in the 2nd degree, Criminal Trespass in the 1st degree, Violation of Conditions of Release, and Misconduct Involving Controlled Substances in the 5th degree. He was arrested and transported to Wildwood Correctional Center where he was remanded.
