The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a winter weather advisory for the Western Kenai Peninsula, including the cities of Kenai, Soldotna, Homer, and Cooper Landing. This is also anticipated to hit south of Ninilchik, including the communities along the Kachemak Bay Coast.

This advisory will be in effect from 4:00 a.m. Tuesday morning until 6:00 p.m. that night.

According to the NWS, snow and blowing snow is to be expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches from Anchor Point to Homer and 5 to 10 inches around Seldovia.

Northerly winds gusting to 30 mph. Visibility reduced to as low as one half mile at times.

Snow will develop over Kachemak Bay early Tuesday morning and remain over the area through at least Tuesday evening. Winds will also increase Tuesday morning, especially along the immediate Cook Inlet coast and across southern Kachemak Bay. The combination of snow and wind could produce areas of blowing snow from Anchor Point and Diamond Ridge south to Seldovia through Tuesday evening. The heaviest snow amounts will likely be around Seldovia. There is still some uncertainty as to when the heaviest snow will taper off. Snow could linger into late Tuesday night, resulting in additional snow accumulations.

Travel could be difficult. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility to one half mile at times, especially along the Sterling Highway near Anchor Point and for communities along the southern coast of Kachemak Bay.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.
