New Hope Counseling Center’s 2022 Harvest of Hope Auction is scheduled for Friday, September 30 from Peninsula Grace Church at 5:30 p.m. New Hope Counseling Center partners with Alaska Christian College by offering the students free access to faith-based Christian counseling. Most of ACC’s students are Alaska Native and have come from remote villages across the state.
“It’s really an opportunity for the community to support counseling, all kinds of counseling that offered through the New Hope Counseling Center which is on the campus of Alaska Christian College,” according to Dr. Keith Hamilton, President of Alaska Christian College, who spoke with KSRM. “Although it is a separate entity, they, each year, gather folks from the community to say we believe in counseling, we believe in all kinds of Christian counseling. We’d love to see people come and have the opportunity from the community and also, the students of Alaska Christian College benefit from this fundraiser, as it pays completely for all their costs of fundraising.”
Many Alaska Native students have been raised in environments where substance abuse and various forms of abuse have been prevalent. In addition, many students find life outside of their village new and challenging.
Dr. Hamilton added, “Every single student that comes to Alaska Christian College, no matter what their background, no matter what has happened in their past has the opportunity for hope and for renewal and to really get maybe to take some of those bags that have been carrying around for quite a few years. It’s really a multi-faceted approach, both to support the community that come as well as our students that come.”
All of the proceeds from the event will go towards subsidizing the cost of counseling services for Alaska Christian College students.
