K-Beach Turnout Votes Navarre Despite Flood Frustrations

The 2013 flood impacts are still rippling through the K-Beach community and frustrations remain high.

Despite that, 50.71%  K-Beach area residents voted for incumbent Mayor Mike Navarre in recent municipal elections.

We asked K-Beach’s Assembly Member Kelly Wolf what he thought that meant.

Wolf: “You know I think that what we saw was mix of those chronicled votes, if you look at the numbers, Mike Navarre took 286 votes and Tom Bearup took 216, that’s a 70 vote margin, while 62 votes voted for Carrol Martin, so basically what that says to me is that almost half of the people are disappointed with Mayor Navarre’s actions.”

On the other hand, Wolf stated, “as it’s been said before” there is only a certain amount the Mayor can do with the Kenai Peninsula Borough being a second class borough.

In regards to flooding, Wolf said from what he has seen and heard, conditions at this time are better than last year.
