Update 12:00 A.M. – 12/29/21

The outage affecting Beaver loop and 227 members has been restored. Cause was a tree on the line.

The outage effecting areas in Soldotna, including the hospital has been restored. Cause was a tree on the line behind Bucket’s Sports Grill.

Areas still out include, Portions of K-Beach, Cziekanski, Murwood, West Poppy, and Gaswell. Crews are working on locating the cause. There is wire down on several of those outages, so it could be some time before they can restore power to them all.

Homer currently only has 1 outage in the Ninilchik area. 27 meters out of power. There is also an outage in Sterling Off of Swanson River Road. 242 members out there and we have an outage out Funny River Road on Fishermans. 116 members out on that outage.

There are crew dispatched to both of those outages.

There is also an outage off of Tote Road with 215 members.

Update 11:30 P.M. – 12/28/21

Homer Electric Association is in the process of restoring some circuits which will allow them to assess and target specific outages. They will start to see power restored for some members.

As we expected with winds that topped out at around 35 mph, we have received numerous reports of trees on the line and downed power lines.

HEA has devoted a lot of manpower throughout Soldotna in an effort to restore the power as quickly as possible. However, with 7,000 members without power it will be difficult to restore power to everyone tonight and some members will have a longer outage than we would prefer.

Please continue to check the outage map which has the most up-to-date information.

Also, for your safety, please do not go near a downed power line. We appreciate your patience and the hard work of our crew that are working around the clock to get the lights back on.

Original Post:

Homer Electric Association is responding to a large power outage effecting over 7,000 members across the Kenai Peninsula. Current members without power.

Keriann Baker with Homer Electric Association:

“We’re getting reports of trees on the line all over the place. We’ve got lines down, we had about 35 outages come in 30 minutes, so just to give you a scope of what we are facing. We’ve thrown a ton of resources at this. We’ve got guys looking at but, not matter how you slice it, there are going to be some people that are out of power overnight even with the amount of resources that we’ve thrown at this. It’s all weather related with most of the outages having to do with trees on the line.”

HEA has dispatched 10 linemen to respond and the linemen have been dispatched throughout the region to identify issues and make repairs to restore power to effected members.

Baker reminds residents to stay away from downed and fallen lines:

“Please do not approach a downed line. While we have every reason to believe they are not energized at this point in time, we want people to very cautious. If you see a tree on the line call the outage hotline at 1-888-868-8243.”

If you are without power at this time, please call 1-888-868-8243.
