Congresswoman-elect Mary Peltola will officially be sworn into the 117th Congress on September 13th, 2022 at 6:33pm EST, according to her campaign publicist. Peltola will serve out the remainder of the late Rep. Don Young’s term through January 2023. Peltola, who is Yup’ik, will become the first Alaska Native in U.S. history to represent the state, in addition to being the first woman to hold the seat.

Peltola said:

“I’m honored and humbled by the support I have received from across Alaska. I look forward to continuing Don Young’s legacy of bipartisanship, serving all Alaskans, and building support for Alaska’s interests in DC.”

The Congresswoman-elect will travel to D.C. this weekend and remain there after her swearing in ceremony with the House scheduled to be in session the entire week.

In an earlier report, Peltola ran using a bipartisan message while her two Republican opponents went after each other, most recently with Sarah Palin calling on fellow congressional candidate Republican Nick Begich to drop out of the race on Monday as that was the deadline for candidates to withdraw from the November general election.

Peltola, Palin and Begich are among the candidates looking for a full two-year term that will be decided in the November general election.
