Original Story:

A small airplane crash at Mile 155 of the Sterling Highway Friday afternoon has resulted in a partial closure of the Sterling Highway.

According to a comment on the incident provided by Alaska State Trooper’s A Detachment Commander, Captain Mike Zweifel, the incident initially happened around 2:00pm Thursday afternoon.

“All we have for now is a small airplane crashed with two occupants,” said Captain Zweifel in a text message. “I can’t comment on any condition of the occupants right now. NTSB should be arriving on scene soon if they haven’t already.”

Around 3:30pm, the DOT sent out an alert on the incident, stating travelers should expect delays, and that emergency vehicles were in area of the highway blockage. At that time the DOT estimated that the road would be completely open again by 8:00pm, although there has been no official word from AST or the NTSB on an expected timetable.
