The Soldotna City Library is known for many things, such as its used book and art sales, the teen lounge, and bouncing babies. It’s a place to gather, host conferences, and, believe it or not, find a good book.

But would you believe it if you discovered that this community resource has only been open for a decade?

That’s right, the Soldotna Public Library has officially reached its 10th anniversary in it’s current location!

So what better way to celebrate this event than with an anniversary party?

Soldotna City Librarian Rachel Nash shared some information about the upcoming event during an interview with KSRM’s Merrill Sikorski.

“Well, on Monday, April 29, from 3-5 p.m., we’re going to have our 10 year anniversary party, that’s 10 years in the new building. We can’t believe it went by so fast. We’re going to have cake and we’re going to have crafts and we’re going to have scavenger hunts and pretty much all the good things that you can ever imagine happening with library that will be happening that day,” said Nash.

The event will also include a book walk, balloon animals for the children, and live music.

Although Nash expresses great excitement for the big 1-0, she also shares how the library has been extremely busy throughout the month to make sure all the kids have fun activities to participate in.

“We have a STEM program; it is a safe house in partnership with HEA; they’re going to bring in that house where kids can go in and learn about fire safety and how to escape from a building. We’re really excited to partner with them on that. And then we also have a new program that some of you might not have heard of yet. We have a chess meet-up every Monday from three to five, and that’s every single Monday. And if you want to come in and practice chess, learn to play chess, do anything regarding chess, come on in and there’s other people that also love chess and they will they will play chess with you,” said Nash.

In the transition from spring into summer, Nash also mentions that the library has been busy preparing for this year’s summer reading program. This year’s theme is ‘Adventure is at Your Library.’

“And we’re going to really lean in heavy to the hiking and backpacking and all of the awesome adventures that we can have in Alaska,” said Nash.

So be sure to head on over to the Soldotna Public Library on Monday, April 29th, from 3-5 p.m. to play some games, have some cake, and celebrate the library’s 10 years in it’s current location!
