Stars Overpower West Valley 54-22 To Advance To Football State Championship

Dominating opponents on both sides of the football and controlling the line of scrimmage on offense and defense is standard operating procedure for the Soldotna Stars football team, and Friday’ s Division II playoff game against West Valley proved no different with SoHi dominating throughout three quarters en route to a 54-22 victory over the Wolfpack.

 

The Stars advance to the Division II ASAA State Football Championships scheduled for Saturday, October 19th at 4 p.m. at the Anchorage Football Stadium.  The Stars will battle the winner of the Lathrop vs Eagle River playoff game (Saturday in Fairbanks) for the 2019 Division II state title– a shot at an eighth-straight for the Stars.

 

SoHi 54 – West Valley 22

The Soldotna offense scored on five-straight possessions to open the playoff game with West Valley; while holding the Wolfpack to a lone, first half touchdown.

SoHi first-half scoring drives included:

10-yard Hudson Metcalf touchdown run  (8:31 1st quarter)

2-yard Aaron Faletoi touchdown run  (5:14 1st quarter)

11-yard Aaron Faletoi touchdown run  (4:11 1st quarter)

End of 1st quarter  SoHi 21 – West Valley 0

33-yard Aaron Faletoi touchdown run  (11:52 2nd quarter)

28-yard Galen Brantley touchdown reception from Jersey Truesdell  ( 5:04 2nd quarter)

Half time Score: SoHi 35 – West Valley 8

SoHi scored on three-straight drives in the third quarter; while West Valley managed a pair of touchdown passes ( 67-yard and 87-yard passes Shaun Conwell to Keegan Daoust)

SoHi third quarter scoring drives included: 

22-yard  Wyatt Medcoff touchdown run  (8:48 3rd quarter)

35-yard  Wyatt Medcoff touchdown run  (4:25 3rd quarter)

3-yard Hudson Metcalf touchdown run  (2:32 3rd quarter)

Wyatt Medcoff: 146 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns

Jersey Truesdell” 7 of 8 completions for 121 yards and one touchdown

Aaron Faletoi: 3 touchdowns rushing on six carries

Galen Brantley III: 3 catches for 71 yards and one touchdown
