Divisional & Conference Football Fills Pivotal Pigskin Weekend

Nikiski returns to varsity football, the Soldotna Stars return to the road for a conference contest and Kenai celebrates Kardinals Homecoming for week seven of the high school football regular season.

 

Friday Night Football

 

Nikiski vs Homer @ Nikiski High School   5 p.m.   KSRM 920AM and radiokenai.com

The Nikiski Bulldogs return to varsity football action in week seven with the Bulldogs hosting Homer on Friday at 5 p.m. at Nikiski High School.  The Bulldogs have not faced a varsity opponent since an impressive 42-7 victory over Denali Conference opponent Eielson in week three.  Nikiski owns a 2-1 season record and stands at 1-0 in the Denali Conference.  The Mariners locked-in a playoff berth in the Mid-Alaska Conference with a win over Barrow and the Mariners stand at 5-1 on the season.  Next week, Nikiski hosts Seward (1-0 in Denali) for the single berth to the Division III state playoffs.

 

SoHi vs Wasilla @ Wasilla High School    7 p.m.    ESPN 1140AM, 96.9FM and radiokenai.com

The Soldotna Stars, 6-0 on the regular season, will face Northern Lights Conference opponent Wasilla on Friday, September 23rd with SoHi traveling to Wasilla High School for a 7 p.m. game under the lights.

The Stars play their third NLC game of the regular season, following a 49-7 dismantling of the Palmer Moose in week six.  SoHi has dominated the regular season with 315 points through six games, averaging over 52 points per game with wins over North Pole, Service, West Valley, South, Chugiak and Palmer.

Wasilla currently stands at 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in the NLC.  The Warriors fell 24-21 to the Eagle River Wolves last week in NLC play.

 

Saturday Football

 

Kenai vs Houston @ KCHS    2 p.m. ESPN 1140AM, 96.9FM and radiokenai.com

The Kenai Kardinals look to add a fifth victory of the season with the Kardinals hosting the undefeated Houston Hawks for the Kardinals Homecoming on Saturday, September 24th at KCHS.

The Kardinals stand at 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Mid-Alaska Conference.  Kenai defeated Redington 27-14 last week to keep the Kardinals in the hunt for a Mid-Alaska playoff spot.  Kenai is averaging 27 points per game and look to win a third-straight football game and a second conference contest.
