Due to the sunny spring weather the Department of Natural Resources will be closing the Nancy Lake State Recreation Area and the Hatcher Pass East Management Area to snowmachining Monday, April 14.
Wayne Biessel with the department says they like to give early public notice in case they’d like to squeeze in one last ride.
Biessel: “Its that time of year that the snow pack starts to implode upon itself. We’ve sustained a nice, hard layer of crusty snow up at Hatcher Pass over the last glorious several weeks which has made for recreational conditions for pretty much all types of uses. But that ice layer is starting to degrade right now.”
Biessel said that the Hatcher Pass West side will remain open and if conditions change rangers will reassess the closed areas.
