Kodiak Earns Win Over SoHi In Pitcher’s Duel

Pitching was key for both SoHi and Kodiak in Friday’s Northern Lights Conference baseball pairing as the Kodiak Bears downed SoHi 3-1.

 

Kodiak’s starting pitcher Malakai Olsen pitched a complete game going seven innings and recording seven strikeouts while allowing only one unearned run for the victory.  SoHi’s starting pitcher Trent Ohnemus threw five innings and collected eleven strikeouts allowing only one earned run.  Andrew Pieh closed for the Stars and recorded three strikeouts and allowed no runs.

 

Offensively, Kodiak’s Hunter Williams went 3 for 4, scored twice, had a stolen base and had the Bears only extra-base hit.

The Bears loaded the bases in the first inning; however, failed to plate a run.  SoHi scored their lone run in the second inning, Sage Cruz scoring on an RBI ground ball by Tucker Blough.  Kodiak rallied with two runs in the third inning on two hits and two SoHi throwing errors fr a 2-1 lead.  the Bears added a run in the fifth scoring Williams with a three-hit inning. Final Score: Kodiak 3 – SoHi 1

 

The Bears and Stars face-off on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Soldotna Field.

 

Kenai Baseball 15 – Houston 3

The Kardinals run-ruled the Houston Hawks 15-3 in five innings, building a 13-0 lead after two innings.

Kenai’s Gabe Joanis allowed two runs on five hits through four innings;  , Zane Pellegrom closed in the fifth inning with Houston scoring an unearned run.

Kenai offense:  Daniel Steffensen scored three runs, Braden Smith had three runs, Owen Whicker had two runs and two RBI, Gabe Joanis had two runs, Jacob Joanis had three RBI and Avery Martin had two RBI.

Kenai and Houston return to the diamond on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the Kenai Field.
