Mariners Drop Overtime Football Game To Chugiak

The Homer Mariners battled to a regulation tie with the Chugiak Mustangs; Chugiak takes the victory 17-14 on an overtime field goal.

 

Chugiak 17 – Homer 14

The Chugiak Mustangs opened with a rushing touchdown and a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.  Homer answered with a Kain Smith touchdown catch from Carter Tennison for a 7-6 Mustang lead.

Late in the second quarter, Homer intercepted Chugiak and returned to the 9-yard line setting up a Tennison touchdown run of one yard.  Halftime Score: Homer 14 – Chugiak 7.

The third quarter was scoreless highlighted by a Mariner defensive stop at the one-yard line holding Chugiak on downs.

The Mustangs opened the fourth quarter with a 5-yard touchdown run at 5:51 to tie the game at 14-14.  The Mariners mounted a drive late in the fourth quarter; however fumbled on the 1-yard line.  Chugiak’s final drive ended with a Mariner interception.  The game ended tied in regulation at 14-14.

In the overtime, Homer with first possession was held scoreless on four downs.  Chugiak scored a game-winning field goal of 20 yards on fourth down for the victory.  Final Score: 17-14.
