Post 20 Twins Claim American Division Legion Baseball Title

Owning a conference sweep against the South Anchorage Post 4 and with a regular season final game victory over South on Sunday, the Post 20 Twins American Legion baseball team earns the #1 seed from the American Division into the upcoming 67th American Legion Baseball State Tournament.

 

Post 20 finishes the regular season with a 13-5 conference record and a total of 57 points.  South Anchorage also finishes with 57 points and a 13-5 record.  The Twins earn the top seed from the American Division based on a 2-0 head-to-head record against South.

 

The American Legion Baseball State Tournament opens play at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage on Friday, July 26th, brackets will be released on Monday.

 

The Post 20 Twins anticipate a #4 seed in the tournament, based on total points in the regular season.  In the National Division, Wasilla earned 66 points with a 16-2 record and will likely be seeded #1 followed by Juneau (63 points) and Chugiak (61 points).  The top eight teams advance to the Alaska state tournament; the remaining teams compete in the Matson Invitational at Bartlett High School.

 

Twins 4 – South 2  Final regular season game

Twins starter Moses Hayes was staked with a 4-0 lead in the first inning and held South in-check for a 4-2 Post 20 victory over South Post 4 in the final regular season games on the American Legion baseball schedule.

 

Hayes threw 6 2/3 innings allowing only two runs on five hits and Hayes recorded seven strikeouts.  Seth Adkins recorded the one out save.  Hayes and Tanner Ussing each contributed two hits; Davey Belger recorded two RBI.
