SoHi’s Jedlicki Leads Stars To 6th Place At DI State Cross Country: Seward Girls Top DII Standings

Runners from throughout Alaska competed at the 2022 ASAA Cross Country Running State Championships, in three divisions-girls and boys, on Saturday on the Bartlett Trails at Bartlett Hgih School in Anchorage.

 

SoHi’s Sophia Jedlicki placed second in the girls Division I championship race behind only 2021 runner-up Campbell Peterson from Chugiak.  Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra, 2021 champion, placed third in the Division II race.

 

Division I State Championships: Results

Girls

SoHi freshman Sophia Jedlicki clocked a time of 19:35.1 for second place overall behind Chugiak senior Campbell Peterson in 19:15.4.  SoHi’s Tania Boonstra, also a freshman, placed fifth in 19:51.6 helping propel the Soldotna girls to a 6th Place team finish in the Division I classification.  The Chugiak girls race to the DI team title followed by Juneau.

Boys

SoHi sophomore Jacob Strausbaugh broke into the top-25 with a 24th Place finish in the boys Division I race.  Colony swept the top three places with Matthew Rongitsch winning the DI boys championship. The Colony boys earn the team title followed by South Anchorage.

 

Division II State Championships: Results

Girls

Kenai senior Jayna Boonstra closed-out her cross country career with a 3rd-Place finish in the Division II girls race, finishing behind two Sitka runners and in front of Region III 3A champion Hailey Ingalls who placed fifth overall.  Anna Prussian, senior from Sitka High, topped the field in 20:00.8, just 01.1 ahead of Wolves teammate Claire Mullin.  Boonstra clocked a 20:22.3 for third place.

Ingalls lead the Seward girls to the Division II girls team championship with seven Seahawks finishing in the top-36 overall.

Boys

Grace Christian continued its dominance winning the boys Division II team title behind a championship run by David Sliwinski in 15:54.6.  Homer senior Seamus McDonough placed second only two seconds back in 15:56.5.  Kenai’s Greg Fallon, Kardinal junior, place sixth overall and Jack Laker placed 17th overall.  Kenai placed fourth in the team scoring; Homer, third.
