KWHQ’s 6th annual Country Cares for St. Jude Radiothon on 100.1 FM is under way and as of 5:10 pm had raised $7,380.

Event Marketing Representative Jill Witsoe with St. Jude’s Hospital commented on working with the community.

Witsoe: “It’s going fantastic, the volunteers have been amazing, they just bring such a great source of energy and it was nice recruiting volunteers and they were like have safe travels from Seattle to Kenai and warm wishes, Oh the phones are ringing! But the excitement has been there, the genuineness, the caringness and the community.”

Witsoe shared with us how she started working for St. Jude.

Witsoe: “The end of September I moved from Chicago to Seattle, I’m a former patient family. We were there from ’08 to ’09, then unfortunately we lost Sean in 2010. And it’s kind of being inspired by Matt Wilson, the station, Kenai and the different people who step up at St. Jude events and radiothons like this that help save other kids so that other people don’t have to go through what my family did is why I’m here.”

The radiothon will continue through tomorrow, to donate call 283-4504, or visit radiokenai.com
